Hepatic fibrosis refers to the diffuse excessive deposition and abnormal distribution of extracellular matrix such as collagen and proteoglycan after liver cells are repeatedly destroyed during the development of chronic liver diseases. The further development of liver fibrosis can cause structural disorder of the liver, nodular regeneration of liver cells, and formation of pseudolobular structure, that is, liver cirrhosis. Common diseases that cause liver fibrosis include viral hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, cholestasis, autoimmune liver disease, etc.
