Magnetic fluids, also called ferrofuids (FFs), are stable colloidal suspensions that consist of magnetic nanoparticles dispersed in base liquid such as water or oil. As new functional materials, FFs exhibit both liquid behavior and magnetic properties, so they have been widely investigated. Magnetoviscous effect is one of the most important properties of FFs.
Owing to its excellent thermostability and low volatility, silicon oil is often chosen as carrier liquid of FFs. The shear shinning behavior and viscosity–temperature properties of silicon oil based FFs have been reported in the previous study. However, there are few reports on the magnetoviscous effect of these FFs.
