Mineral Fiber Testing

Mineral fibers are non-metallic inorganic fibers derived from inorganic natural sources, such as rock, slag, or glass. Asbestos, fiberglass and rock wool are the most commonly used mineral natural fibers. Mineral fibers generally have outstanding thermal stability, very high tensile strength and good rust-proofing, acid-proofing, soundproofing, fireproofing and insulation properties. These unique physical properties make mineral fiber an ideal filler in fireproofing and thermal insulation material.

STEMart provides a wide range of testing services to evaluate the properties of the following mineral fibers:

  • Natural mineral fibers: Asbestos, wollastonite, and sepiolite
  • Artificially mineral fibers
    • Vitreous fibers: Glass fiber, glass wool, rock and basalt fiber, slag wool, refractory ceramic fibers
    • Crystalline fibers: Alumina fiber, potassium titanate fiber, and carbon fiber
    • Metallic fibers: Steel wool, stainless wool, copper wool
