O-Ring and Seal Testing

An O-ring is a mechanical gasket which is ring-shaped with a round cross-section. It is designed to be seated in a groove and compressed during assembly between two or more parts to create a reliable and leak-free seal at the interface. O-rings are typically divided into two types- static O-ring and dynamic O-ring. A static O-ring forms a dependable, leakproof seal between two stationary parts, while a dynamic O-ring forms a seal between two surfaces in relative motion or moving against each other.  FKM, EPDM, NBR, PTFE, and silicone are the most common materials used for making O-rings. O-rings are cost-effective, easy-to-use, durable and reusable, so they are widely used in various industries and applications, such as aerospace and aviation, medical devices, plumbing, hydraulics and pneumatics, electronics, food and beverage processing and household applications.

In many applications, O-ring failures can have catastrophic consequences resulting in machinery damage or the release of hazardous substances. Consequently, it is important to test the physical properties of O-rings and determine changes in properties due to aging and weathering. STEMart provides a variety of lab testing services for seals, and O-rings and advise you on the best standard testing package for your products.
