PROTEINDEX™ rProtein A Sepharose 4 Fast Flow is an affinity chromatography medium designed for simple one-step purification of immunoglobulins, especially of the IgG isotype, and fusion proteins containing the Fc region.

Protein A is a bacterial cell wall protein isolated from Staphylococcus aureus that binds to the Fc region of most immunoglobulins through interaction with the heavy chain. Native protein A contains five high-affinity IgG-binding domains and many domains with unknown functions. Recombinant protein A coupled to agarose resin was produced in Escherichia coli and contained five high-affinity IgG binding domains, with other non-essential domains removed to reduce non-specific binding. rProtein A is basically the same as natural protein A, and can bind with high affinity to the Fc region of human, rabbit and other animal IgG.

Through the proprietary ProteIndex™ technology, the immobilization of recombinant protein A on 4% highly cross-linked agarose resin is very stable, resulting in high yields in laboratory preparations and scale-up applications.
