Carboxypeptidase B catalyzes the hydrolysis of lysine, arginine, and histidine at the C-terminus of polypeptides. Its molecular weight is 33.8 kDa, the optimum pH is 8.0, and the pI is 6.0. Carboxypeptidase B is competitively inhibited by arginine and lysine. This enzyme is also inhibited by metal chelators such as EDTA.

Marvelgent's recombinant carboxypeptidase B was expressed in E. coli and purified by high pressure liquid chromatography. There is no trace contamination of proteases, such as carboxypeptidase A or chymotrypsin, and no protease inhibitors, such as PMSF.
