Introduction

Flow linear dichroism (LD) spectroscopy provides information on the orientation of molecules in solution and hence on the relative orientation of parts of molecules.
Amyloid fibrils are extremely strong, highly ordered and organized fibers that can be formed by a large number of proteins and peptides. Their stability and insolubility means that they are useful in a large number of naturally occurring forms as well as bionanotechnology.




Principle

Linear dichroism (LD) or diattenuation is the difference between absorption of light polarized parallel and polarized perpendicular to an orientation axis. It is the property of a material whose transmittance depends on the orientation of linearly polarized light incident upon it. LD measurements are based on the interaction between matter and light and thus are a form of electromagnetic spectroscopy.
