Tire Testing

Tire testing is used to analyze a tire's performance in terms of grip, wear, noise, rolling resistance and behavior. Understanding the performance of tires and tire mechanics is critical in determining their influence on the ride, handling and safety of motorcycles, cars, trucks, agricultural equipment, commercial vehicles, and airplanes.

STEMart provides a variety of tire testing to evaluate and optimize tire performance over a broad range of on- and off-road conditions including mud, sand, snow and ice.

Test Capabilities

  • Accelerated aging testing: Evaluate the long-term effect on tires of exposure to elevated temperature by determining the level of oxidation that occurs over a specified period of time.
  • Rolling resistance testing: Determine the rolling resistance of tire at various temperatures to help manufacturer optimize tire for fuel economy.
  • Forces and moments measurement: Investigate the influence of tire forces and moments generated in the contact patch on the handling and stability of tire, therefore evaluating the grip performance of a tire on different surfaces (dry, wet, snow).
    • Loaded radius
    • Effective rolling radius
    • Slip angle
    • Slip ratio
    • Camber
    • Tire tread temperatures
  • Braking testing: Reveal tire's performance in terms of braking and grip at various levels of loads and pressures.
    • Dry ground condition
    • Wet ground condition
    • Snow ground condition
    • Ice ground condition
  • Tread wear measurement: Identify tire wear rates and wear characteristics in real-life conditions.
  • Thermal testing: Measure the both internal and external tire temperatures in real-time to reveal the thermal state of a tire during any test.
  • Noise measurement
