Whirl-Pak® Speci-Sponge® Environmental Surface Sampling Bag, model B01299WA(Nasco) is manufactured by Aristotle Corporation. This product is designed for environmental surface sampling in workplaces, equipment, animal carcasses, and any other places where Listeria, Salmonella, Escherichia coli, coliform and other food borne pathogens or anthrax need to be tested.
The special dry sponge does not contain fungicides and is tested to be non-inhibitive. It is recommended to wear sterile gloves when wiping with sponge to prevent contamination. After collecting the sample and putting the sponge back into the bag, it can be sent to the laboratory for testing. In the laboratory, the media can be added directly to the bag, and then the sample can be incubated in the bag for + / - test, or the sample can be extruded from the sponge, pipetted, and plated out.
