As one of the most prevalent type A trichothecenes, T-2 toxin (T-2) is produced by several Fusarium species, such as F. acuinatum, F. poae, and F. soprotrichioides, which can be found in various cereal grains. Because of its 12,13-epoxy ring, T-2 is considered as the most acutely toxic trichothecene. And it can cause alimentary toxicity and immunotoxicity by inhibiting the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and protein. T-2 is highly stable and non-volatile even under extreme conditions and thus has the potential for weaponization.
