Official Full Name: calcitonin related polypeptide alpha<br />Also known as: CT; KC; PCT; CGRP; CALC1; CGRP1; CGRP-I; CGRP-alpha<br />This gene encodes the peptide hormones calcitonin, calcitonin gene-related peptide, and calcitonin, and gene transcripts are spliced and inactive precursor proteins are cleaved by tissue-specific alternative RNA splicing. Calcitonin is involved in the regulation of calcium and regulates phosphorus metabolism. Calcitonin gene-related peptide has the function of vasodilator and antimicrobial peptide, while calcitonin is a calcitonin. Multiple transcript variants of this gene have been found encoding different isoforms.
