Official Full Name: ephrin A1
Also known as: B61; EFL1; GMAN; ECKLG; EPLG1; LERK1; LERK-1; TNFAIP4
This gene encodes a member of the ephrin (EPH) family. Ephrin and Eph-related receptors comprise the largest subfamily of receptor protein tyrosine kinases and are involved in mediating developmental events, particularly in the nervous system and erythropoiesis. According to their structure and sequence relationship, ephrin can be divided into ephrin-A (EFNA) class and transmembrane protein ephrin-B (EFNB) class that are fixed on the membrane by glycosylphosphatidylinositol linkage. This gene encodes an EFNA-like ephrin that binds EPHA2, EPHA4, EPHA5, EPHA6 and EPHA7 receptors. By sequence analysis, two transcript variants encoding different isoforms were identified.
