Fatty acid-binding protein (FABP) is a member of the intracellular lipid-binding protein superfamily, present in the cells of vertebrates and invertebrates, and plays an important role in the uptake, transport and metabolic regulation of long-chain fatty acids. The role of FABPs in cells is to promote fatty acid solubilization, transport and metabolism. At least 10 fatty acid binding proteins have been identified, and these fatty acid binding proteins exist in different forms in different tissues.
