Official Full Name: forkhead box P1
Also known as: MFH; QRF1; 12CC4; hFKH1B; HSPC215
This gene belongs to the P subfamily of the forkhead box (FOX) transcription factor family. Forkhead box transcription factors play important roles in the regulation of tissue- and cell-type-specific gene transcription during development and adulthood. The forkhead box P1 protein contains a DNA-binding domain and a protein-binding domain. This gene likely acts as a tumor suppressor gene as it is deleted in several tumor types and localizes to a chromosomal region containing tumor suppressor genes (3p14.1). Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
