T cell immunoglobulin domain mucin domain protein-1 (TIM-1), also known as kidney injury factor-1 (KIM-1) and hepatitis A virus cell receptor 1 (HAVcr1), is a member of the TIM gene family, It plays a key role in regulating the activity of immune cells, especially the host immune response to virus infection. TIM-1 is preferentially expressed in Th2 cells and is a stimulatory molecule for T cell activation. TIM-1 is also involved in allergic reactions, asthma and transplant tolerance. In humans, TIM-1 serves as a receptor for cellular entry of several viruses, including hepatitis A virus, dengue virus, and Ebola virus.
