Myosin is a mechanical enzyme that interacts with actin filaments and hydrolyzes ATP to generate motion and force. This allows myosin to push the slide of actin filaments, create tension on the actin filaments, and walk along those filaments. Thus, myosin can regulate the structure and dynamics of the actin cytoskeleton and influence the localization and trafficking of cellular components. Different myosins are grouped according to their motor domains.
