Introduction

Osteoprotegerin (OPG) is a member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily, also known as TNFRS11B or OCIF, which belongs to type II transmembrane protein. OPG is mainly expressed by bone marrow stromal cells. In addition, its expression has also been detected in the immune system (such as lymph nodes, B cells and dendritic cells (DCs)) and the vascular system (such as the heart, arteries and veins). Usually, the expression of OPG is closely related to some bone diseases. But more evidence shows that OPG can promote cell survival by inhibiting TNF-related apoptosis. In addition, some in vitro, in vivo and clinical studies have also shown that OPG plays a role in tumors.
