Official Full Name: SP100 nuclear antigen
Also known as: lysp100b
This gene encodes subnuclear organelles and major components of the PML (promyelocytic leukemia)-SP100 nucleosome. PML and SP100 are covalently modified by SUMO-1 modifiers, which are thought to be critical for nucleosomal interactions. The encoded protein binds heterochromatin proteins and is thought to play a role in tumorigenesis, immunity, and gene regulation. Alternative splice variants of this gene have been identified; one of them encodes a high mobility protein cluster.
