Pyridoxal kinase (PK) is an important enzyme involved in bioactivation of vitamin B6. Binding of PK with its substrate is the prerequisite step for the subsequent catalytic phosphorylation of the substrate.
Pyridoxamine is one form of vitamin B6. Chemically it is based on a pyridine ring structure, with hydroxyl, methyl, aminomethyl, and hydroxymethyl substituents. Pyridoxal phosphate and pyridoxamine phosphate, the catalytically active forms of vitamin B, can influence brain function by participating at stages in metabolism of proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, other coenzymes and hormones.
