Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are lipid bound vesicles secreted by cells into the extracellular space. The three main subtypes of EVs are microvesicles (MVs), exosomes, and apoptotic bodies, which are differentiated based upon their biogenesis, release pathways, size, content, and function.
