Chimeric antibodies generally refer to the exchange of the antibody constant region of one species with another species. The earliest use of this technology was to engineer mouse antibodies into human-mouse chimeric antibodies. The chimeric antibody not only retains the ability of the parental antibody to specifically bind to the antigen, but also reduces the immunogenicity of the murine antibody in the human body. Its half-life is significantly prolonged, and its ability to mediate CDC and ADCC is also significantly enhanced.
In fact, this technology can be applied in many ways. For example, the constant region of a mouse antibody can be replaced by a human constant region. Similarly, the constant region of an antibody of any species can be replaced by that of another species, or the Antibodies switch from one subtype to another.
