Microwave Network Analyzers / Vector Network Analyzers (VNA)

A vector network analyzer is a test device for electromagnetic wave energy. It can not only measure the magnitude of various parameters of a single-port network or two-port network, but also measure the phase. The vector network analyzer can display the test data with a Smith chart.

Sample Requirements

  • Coaxial mode powder samples generally need at least 0.1 g (related to the sample concentration), or prepare a coaxial ring (outer diameter: 7 mm, inner diameter: 3 mm, thickness: not exceeding 2 mm).
  • The waveguide needs to prepare a standard size sample according to the test frequency band, and it is best to put it into the waveguide sheet after preparation.
    Sample preparation standard:
    8.2~12.4 GHz: 22.9×10.2×2 mm
    12.4~18 GHz: 5.9×8.03×2 mm
    18-26.5 GHz: 10.95×4.5×2 mm
    26.5-40 GHz: 7.15×3.60×2 mm
Film: 20 mm×30 mm, thickness less than 0.1 mm
  • The bow method needs to be made into a large slab of 180×180 mm.
  • Resonant cavity method: the length and width of the film are 40×50 mm, and the thickness does not exceed 1 mm. Strict measurement should be carried out before sample delivery.

Application

  • For testing electromagnetic shielding and wave absorption performance. The calculation of electromagnetic shielding mainly uses S parameters, and the calculation of absorbing efficiency uses electromagnetic parameters.

FAQ

Q1. In the vector network data, what data is the TXT given?

A. S parameters (where r represents the real part and i represents the imaginary part).

Q2. In a vector network analyzer, what data can only be given by the bow method?

A. Only absorbance reflectance can be given.

Q3. If you want to use powder to measure the coaxial, if you want to add paraffin, is there a reference value?

A. If there is no reference, you can only measure 1:1, and then adjust the concentration according to the data. It is best to check the literature to understand.

Q4. In the vector network analyzer, what is the direct calculation of electromagnetic shielding?

A. S parameters.
