Cobalt 60 radiation sterilization is also called cobalt source radiation sterilization. Radiation sterilization is through the gamma rays produced by cobalt 60 radioactive elements acting on objects, destroying or killing the living body inside the product to achieve disinfection and sterilization. At the same time, gamma rays acting on a product of this special material can change the internal molecular structure of the product and play a role in material modification, such as radiation crosslinking, radiation curing, and radiation degradation. For some special material products, when using this process, it is necessary to pay attention to whether the product will cause performance changes, especially some polymer materials, such as pp plastic materials, which are easy to cause color change and circuit boards are easy to cause short circuit. Secondly, pay attention to some foods, because radiation sterilization will cause taste changes. Some fruits that are preserved by radiation need to pay attention to the intensity control. If the intensity is too high, it will cause changes in moisture, color and smell, and mineral or glass products will cause color changes.

• Sample grouping can be divided into control group, treatment group, etc., or grouped by letters and numbers.
• The name on the sample package must be consistent with the sample number in the table. Except for the name, please do not mark other information on the tube cap to avoid identification errors.

Q2. Are samples radioactive after irradiation testing? Is it harmful to the human body?

A. No. Co-60 ray energy is 1.3325 MeV and 1.1732 MeV, which is not enough to cause photoactivation. Generally, only when the photon energy reaches 10 MeV, the photonuclear reaction, that is, the neutron radiation, will be considered.
