Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a pleiotropic cytokine that plays a crucial role in host defense by regulating immune and inflammatory responses. IL-6 is produced by T cells, monocytes, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and keratinocytes, and it exhibits various biological functions. It promotes B-cell differentiation and antibody production, cooperates with IL-3 in megakaryocyte development and platelet production, induces the expression of acute-phase proteins in the liver, and regulates bone metabolism. IL-6 signals through the IL-6 receptor system, which consists of the IL-6Rα and gp130 chains. It's important to note that murine IL-6 does not affect human cells, and both human and murine IL-6 have activity on murine cells.
The lyophilized formulation can be stored at 2-8°C for 24 months. For reconstitution, it can be dissolved in injection-grade water, physiological saline, culture medium, or PBS. After dissolution, it should be divided into smaller aliquots and stored at -20°C for 6 months or at -80°C for 12 months, with a final concentration after dilution not lower than 100 μg/mL. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
