CD146, also known as melanoma cell adhesion molecule (MCAM) or cell surface glycoprotein MUC18, is a single chain membrane penetrating glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily (Igsf) and homologous to many cell adhesion molecule (CAM). CD146 is active in a variety of cellular physiological processes, including development, signal transduction, cell migration, mesenchymal stem cell differentiation, angiogenesis, and immune response. Among them, the most studied one is involved in tumor angiogenesis and metastasis.
