Osteoactivin (OA), also known as transmembrane glycoprotein HGFIN, DC-HIL and NMB (GPNMB), belongs to the PMEL/NMB family. Osteoactivin contains a PKD domain. Osteoactivin is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is upregulated in several cancer cells, including glioblastoma multiforme, in many melanoma cells, and in tissue macrophages. Osteoactivin protein is a downstream mediator of BMP-2 affecting osteoblast differentiation and function. Osteoactivin is involved in bone mineralization and acts as a negative regulator of macrophage inflammation.
