Cathepsins are a class of proteases found in the cells of various animal tissues (especially the lysosome), and are the main members of the cysteine protease family. More than 20 species have been found in the biological world, and 11 mainly exist in the human body. They are closely related to many major diseases such as human tumors, osteoporosis, and arthritis, and are a class of target proteases that have attracted much attention in recent years.
Cathepsin L2, (EC 3.4.22.43, also known as cathepsin V or cathepsin U), is a protein encoded in humans by the CTSV gene. The protein is a human cysteine cathepsin, a lysosomal cysteine protease with endopeptidase activity.
